Something a little different today and I’m sharing with you a recent experience I had which was going to afternoon tea at a local country hotel.
Afternoon tea is a lovely thing to do when you are in the UK especially with older children as it’s so lovely to see them enjoying it and taking in the atmosphere and creating memories. I went along with my family to have afternoon tea and here is what we had.
A selection of tea’s including:
- English Breakfast
- Earl Grey
- Pear Caramel
- Chocolate Orange Truffle
- Mandarin Rose Petal
- Green Tea Tropical
- Chamomile Citrus
- Calming Moon
- Berry Wellness
We were able to smell each of the infusions and take in the rich aromas of the tea. My children had a lot of fun with this part smelling all the different flavours and deciding which ones that they wanted to try. I chose Earl Grey, my partner he had the Chocolate Orange Truffle Tea, the children chose English Breakfast and Tropical Green Tea.
Next came the food!
Traditional finger sandwiches and a selection of cakes including Battenberg, mini lemon meringue tarts, macarons, a chocolate truffle and a honeycomb cheesecake also served were warm scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
It was really nice and although not the finest afternoon tea I’ve had, it was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon with my family. We were on such a sugar high after this. It was a real treat as we do not usually eat this much food in the afternoon.
It’s always such a magical and indulgent experience to share afternoon tea. The hotel was lovely, as were the gardens. It was so cold and rainy on the day we didn’t get to walk around them. I can imagine it would be lovely in the summer and I plan to return at a later date to explore some more.
What do you think of the afternoon tea tradition? Have you tried it or would you love to try? Gemma xx
